Throwing a baseball is like tying a shoe- Analogy Assignment

Throwing a baseball is not as easy as it looks. Most people can throw a ball, can they throw a ball with accuracy and enough strength to hit a target? Throwing a baseball has taken me 15 years to perfect, yet not all of my throws are accurate which this is known as an error in baseball. A perfect analogy to throwing a baseball is tying a shoe. When tying your shoes there are multiple steps to follow as there is in throwing a baseball. The first step in tying your shoes is griping the laces properly. The first step in throwing a baseball is gripping the laces properly. When tying your shoes there is a push and pull process, this takes place in a similar fashion when throwing a baseball. We see push and pull when tying laces when you make the loops and “push” the loops through. Then when finishing the tie you “pull” the laces tight. The push and pull motion in throwing is demonstrated in the arm through the throw. When you throw a baseball you “pull” the arm back away from you then you “push” the ball forward in the direction which you are throwing. When throwing a baseball once you understand the concept and learn the steps it becomes muscle memory just like how we tie are shoes everyday.

Why you should watch Talladega Nights.

Talladega Nights is a film that will have you on the verge of peeing yourself from laughter. This film is a comedy starring “Ricky Bobby” a Nascar driver better known as Will Farrell. Ricky Bobby climbs to the top of Nascar, but after a tragic accident, is faced with endless life trials which he has to overcome in order to reach his once legendary Nascar status. This 1 hour and 48 minute box office hit will surely keep you entertained. Farrell’s portrayal of a beer-chuggin’, high-speed ridin’ Nascar driver is spot on. Talladega Nights is by far one of my favorite movies. Many Film Reviewer’s also share my opinion of the film. Roger Ebert’s review on Talladega Nights is a perfect example. One of many great scene’s from Talladega Night’s is mentioned in Roger Ebert’s review, “Born in the back of a speeding chevy, to his first words “I wanna go fast.” There is a special relationship between Ricky Bobby and his best friend/partner. They have nicknamed their duo “shake” and “Bake.” This dynamic duo was also on the same race team and performed a move described in Roger Ebert’s review known as the slingshot. This move was performed by Ricky Bobby’s partner (Cal) positioning his car to help his team’s star driver (Ricky Bobby) slingshot to victory. Roger Ebert’s review on this fantastic comedy resulted in a whopping 4.5/5 star review. My personal rating would be an astounding 5/5 star review. I highly suggest that you see this movie over and over again as it never gets old and never fails to entertain.

Would you induct Pete Rose into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

Does Pete Rose deserve to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

When hearing the name Pete Rose, two things come to mind: one of the most incredible baseball players to play the game and also being regarded as a controversial figure in sports to this day. Pete Rose, referred to as “Charlie Hustle” by sport fanatics from all over is arguably one of the most hard working, dedicated and intense players to hit the field. Early on in his playing career, Pete Rose was building a worthy case of being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He has earned many accomplishments and MLB records which include being named a 17x All Star, a 3x World Series Champion, having his Cincinnati Reds #14 jersey retired, being recently named to the MLB All Century Team, being inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame, as well as setting an absurd 19 MLB records. For these numerous accomplishments, Pete Rose being inducted into the Hall would be a guarantee. However, this “guarantee” soon became less of a sure thing due to his gambling addiction. Gambling is something that occurs every day in society and often goes unnoticed. However, for Pete Rose, given his celebrity presence, this was not the case. On January 8th, 2004, Pete Rose admitted to gambling on baseball games and other sports while playing for and managing the Reds. This gambling act was in violation of MLB rules because he bet on a game he was involved in, which could have an impact on the outcome of the game. It does not matter if you bet on your team to win or lose, betting is still in violation of Rule 21D. To this day, these questionable gambling activities have prevented Pete Rose from being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Recently, Pete Rose has appealed Major League Baseball’s life time ban in order to become eligible for induction. Pete Rose can definitely be considered as controversial in having the qualities of a Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, as a result of questionable gambling acts. In visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame myself, it was interesting to see an entire section dedicated to Pete Rose, just like the actual Hall of Fame Inductees. The only thing his section lacks is a plaque and recognition from the MLB, which leads to the controversial question “Does Pete Rose deserve to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?”

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
